Coming to Boston was a culture shock of sorts. Coming from a town that was almost completely white, racial minorities were few and far in between in a really tiny town in the middle of Maine. No one wanted to talk about race, because for the majority of the white population, it wasn’t a thought that really crossed anybody’s mind. Coming to this school and being instantly surrounded by such diversity in an environment where everyone was very passionate about having these racial conversations was a new and welcomed change. Different, but constructive and good. I don’t think people in my hometown  appreciate or even understand the privilege they possess, and the kinds of things people without that privilege go through and experience.
